The Salami Slicer

Cost of living crisis solved by a thousand cuts

The Mayor of Manchester continues to announce policy initiatives day-by-day:

  1. easier to cancel subscriptions
  2. restrictions on vape shop permits
  3. restrictions on gambling licences

It's easy to be cynical about all these 'micro policies', as Burnham slices off UK problems to solve, when overshadowed by macro problems like immigration but at least he appears to be doing something during his honeymoon period.

FNN thinks that the main problem the government has with this kind of salami-slicing policy introduction is communication.

What the government needs is a very simple Policy Progress website that is just a list of the policies introduced by date, a description of what impact they have had and a comment section for the public to respond.

It doesn't need AI or anything sophisticated to build this site and it could be created in an hour at Number 10 North by an intern.

Why is it that politicians don't like their progress being tracked?

Interesting?
