One of UK PM Burnham's new cabinet ministers is Ed Miliband as Foreign Secretary.
Many wonder whether Miliband has the chops for this job given that he has zero international diplomacy experience apart from with some international climate change agreements where essentially all the climate change zealots are on the same side and the diplomacy consists of mutual back-slapping and virtue signalling.
But few would go as far as Boris Johnson's latest outrageous claims:
Boris Johnson has hit out at Andy Burnham’s decision to appoint Ed Miliband as foreign secretary, boldly claiming that the former Labour leader is to blame for Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
The former Conservative prime minister claimed Mr Miliband’s “failure to stand up to Assad” led “directly” to Putin’s first invasion of Ukraine, and said the Kremlin will be “delighted” with Mr Burnham’s appointment.
This from the man who derailed the Istanbul peace talks in 2022, an act directly responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians.
I doubt if the Kremlin could care less - Miliband is hardly likely to change the UK's position on Ukraine especially not with Healey installed as Chancellor.
Still at least Miliband's extensive experience with wind turbines could pay dividends when dealing with the EU who have plenty of wind-bags of their own although few who can blow quite like Boris.
The White House is not happy as he is a dead-ringer for the far-left whack jobs that the US is trying to use lawfare and money to shutdown. But unlike the Mayor of New York, Miliband is not likely to try to arrest the Prime Minister of Israel if he visits the UK.
Some say it doesn't matter as No.10 really sets foreign policy and the Foreign Secretary just follows orders.
Some would have preferred a comeback for his (slightly) more photogenic brother, David Miliband, but he has spent far too long in the salons of New York to be of any use.
Some might argue that Miliband will play the token 'left-winger' role of 'two jags' John Prescott (RIP) in the Blair government, although it's hard to imagine Miliband punching someone who hits him with an egg (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/c8xpwk4qxz1o).
In the end it won't much matter.
It's unlikely that Miliband can make much of a difference in the two years before Burnham gets booted out.
So there's no need for Zelensky to worry about the Cooper-Miliband transition negatively impacting UK-Ukraine relations so he can focus his attention on the extensive protests in the streets of Ukraine against his own increasingly bizarre decisions.
