Sky News reports:
Tories pledge to lift ban on air conditioning systems in new homes
While Tony Blair says Starmer has 'no coherent plan' the Tories clearly have:
...shadow energy secretary Claire Coutinho said: "We've got to stop thinking that using energy is a bad thing. It's the foundation of civilisation. It's the source of prosperity and growth in your country and actually, something like air con can make a real difference to people's lives."
First of all, FNN had no idea that there was a ban on aircons in new homes.
Secondly this particular proposal seems curiously mistimed as energy prices in the UK are going through the roof and more aircons will simply raise them even more. Ofgem is predicting 'a prolonged period' of higher energy prices starting with the imminent surge in prices.
And we doubt if many pensioners on winter fuel payments will care that much about aircons although in 'heatwave' Britain they probably need them most to avoid dying of heatstroke.
Furthermore, aircon installation in the UK costs about 2-3 more than in other countries so it's a complete rip-off.
Still, the Tories had to do something to counteract the government's reduction of VAT on rollercoaster rides and this is what they came up with.
Something even less spectacular than Wes Streeting's big idea for the UK to go back into the EU.
Bonkers!
