Sky News reports:

Starmer: Closer ties with Europe in the national intrest [sic]

Sir Keir Starmer has said it is in the UK's "national interest to be closer to Europe" as his government pursues a closer relationship with the bloc.

A relationship that is likely to cost at least £1 billion a year according to the EU - that's just over £2.7 million a day.

Starmer also said that the "benefit... outweighs the cost" of participating in the EU's €90bn (£78bn) loan scheme for Ukraine, saying it will create jobs in the UK.

Yes, jobs to create weapons to kill people - preferably Russians of course - but really anyone will do as long as they're out of sight and out of mind.
