Starmer's latest 'reset' speech is scheduled for today.
He's had more rests than an alarm clock.
The Spectator newsletter reports:
Of course, the Prime Minister himself is only just getting started. He told the Observer over the weekend that he wanted to serve for ten years. Now he’s flanked by his new hires Gordon Brown and Harriet Harman (who would both be 83 by that time), Labour MPs are slightly aghast. Perhaps the best quote of the weekend was one ‘near-suicidal’ MP cited in the Times: ‘Are they high?’
He's clearly hoping a few old warhorses will tow his rickety wagon for him before the wheels fall off.
He will try to set Labour apart from Reform and the Tories, claiming that Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch’s parties are ‘defined by breaking our relationship with Europe’. Meanwhile: ‘This Labour government will be defined by rebuilding our relationship and by putting Britain at the heart of Europe. So that we are stronger on the economy, on trade, on defence, you name it.’
In a clear contravention of the will of the people expressed in the BREXIT referendum, Starmer is preparing for his transition to a plum EU job.
This is quite clearly an anti-democratic statement and just more fodder for Reform to latch onto.
The UK is done with all that EU malarkey. Doesn't he get it?
Yes we need frictionless trade with our nearest trading partner but that's about it.
Starmer is obviously saying these things to gain the support of 'remainer' MPs - not gain the support of the electorate.
