Sable Sanction Lifted

It's good to be rich

Euractiv reports:

EU gives Russian luxury fur a pass

Brussels lifted sanctions on Moscow's most luxurious fur

The European Commission argued the exemption was necessary because Russia dominates the global sable trade, leaving European manufacturers with few alternative suppliers.

Talk about one rule for the rich and another for the poor.

While 'poorer' EU citizens have been hit hard by rising gas and oil prices due to the EU opting for more expensive sources for its energy, the rich benefit from bizarre sanctions exemptions.

Surely the rich are showing their support for Ukraine by not buying coats that are made from Russian sable?

If that were the case then this exemption would not be needed.

But clearly that's not the case.

There are sanctions on Russian caviar, why not sable?

Another barmy EU directive and proof of an inconsistent sanctions regime.
