Caitlin Johnstone reports:
Saying You Listen To AI Music Is Like Saying You Have An AI Girlfriend
It pisses me off whenever I see someone claiming that “AI music” is about to make normal music obsolete.
However, the problem is that most people don't actually listen to music anymore.
They dance to it in clubs, they hear it in elevators, it's background noise in aircraft, TV shows and movie.
Sure people still go to concerts but are people really listening to the music are just having an 'experience' that they can film and share online?
Go to a classical concert and most of the people there are over 60 because they are the only ones prepared to give human-produced music the attention it deserves for a couple of hours.
AI-generated music is the music that people deserve in the internet-age. People who have the attention span of a gnat.
But there is a use for AI music.
Commercial music is oriented towards what the the market wants and will sell and make everyone involved some money.
AI-generated music does not have to bother about that.
For example, who would publish a song about the chanting of Saxons in the shield-wall facing the Normans in 1066 that no-one will buy?
FNN did on Suno.
That's what sites like Suno are great for, creating music that might mean something to you but nobody else.
