BBC License Fee

They'd really like everyone to pay it

Sky News reports:

BBC licence fee cost should be cut and expanded beyond TV, MPs recommend

The committee said a household levy, in which homes would pay the licence fee regardless of whether they used the BBC, would be difficult to introduce.

However, it added that the government "should not have ruled out this option entirely".

This is outrageous.

Why should anyone pay a fee for a media service they don't want and don't use?

It's like everyone should pay a Netflix fee or a Sky fee, even if they don't use the service.

This is the problem.

The government want the license fee to become a stealth tax.

The government does not seem to realise that there are plenty of people who don't want to watch the BBC.

They are not 'evading' the license fee but exercising a choice.

They don't want to pay a fee for not watching it and they don't want monthly nagging letters saying they must tell the BBC they are not watching it.

It's impossible to buy a TV that blocks the BBC for example, so you can prove you are not watching it and it suits the TV Licensing authority to have it this way so they can argue that they have to be sure that someone is not watching the BBC by having them send in an annual declaration to state that they are not watching it.

Just make it a subscription service and let the market decide. Simples.
