Rostov-on-Don sub sunk

The latest news is that Ukraine claims to have sunk the Russian submarine Rostov-on-Don.

This sub is similar to The Komsomolsk-on-Amur (BT-256) that featured in Russia's recent Navy Day celebrations in St Petersburg.

Back in September 14 2023, Popular Mechanics (really?) reported on the first destruction of this sub:

Analysts noted that satellite photos from earlier that day indicated the two drydocks spots were occupied by a Ropucha-class landing ship and an Improved Kilo-class submarine.

The ‘damaged’ vessels were eventually confirmed to be the Ropucha-class tank landing ship Minsk, while the submarine was B-237 Rostov-on-Don, one of Russia’s newest Project 636.3 Improved Kilo diesel-electric attack submarines commissioned on December 30, 2014.

On the latest sinking, CNN reported:

The submarine was “severely damaged” in a Ukrainian missile attack in September 2023, according to Ukraine’s General Staff. After that attack, open-source intelligence photos, including ones cited by Britain’s defense ministry, showed what the ministry said was “catastrophic damage.”

But Ukraine’s General Staff said the Rostov-on-Don was repaired and recently tested in the waters of Sevastopol harbor.

How many more times will this sub be subject to 'catastrophic damage' and resurface?
