Sky News reports that In order to face up to the 'threat' from Russia there are proposals for the Royal Navy to replace the core type 45 destroyer (c. £1 billion each) with a 'budget' version.
FNN has learned from an anonymous source (Dick Deadeye) that the options on the table include:
- An origami version from Japan that can be re-configured with just a few folds of its waterproof paper.
- A cast iron type made by Dinky Toys but sea trials have resulted in these ships going to the bottom.
- A life size Airfix kit that will sail with a skeleton crew to fool the Russians.
The Airfix kit seems to be the front-runner as it can be 3-D printed in plastic and only requires the same glue used to hold the UK' s nuclear submarines together.

The box for the new Airfix destroyer displays specially commissioned artwork showing the new destroyers blowing Russian 'shadow-tankers' out of the water while their 6-man crew celebrates.
The first of the new destroyers, HMS Byng, is currently being put together somewhere in Minorca.
