It looks like the Labour Party is setting a course to become the Dad's Army of contemporary Britain, returning the UK to what the Mayor of Manchester says his father believed in:

Mr Burnham said Roy [his dad] believed in “a Britain of trade unions, a union of countries, a country that fought fascism in the last century”.
“That is me, that’s the Britain I believe in, it’s the Britain I will fight for,” he added.
Everyone has a dad - of some kind - but not everyone wants to return to the land of their father.
You expect this kind of schmaltz from US politicians but it's quite unusual from Brits.
This seems more like a call to return Britain to being the sick man of Europe i.e. Pre-Thatcher with good old British Rail, British Steel and a British car industry that was the envy of the world.
Captain Mainwaring and his 'home guard' are back. Only this time they are leading the country.
