Sky News reports under its Lives Under Fire banner:
'Terrifying': How a mother told her daughter her father had been captured by Russian forces
We get this story about a soldier becoming a PoW but where are all the much more terrifying stories of Lives Under Fire of Palestinians being blown to pieces in Gaza or Yemenis slowly starving to death in Yemen.
Admittedly Sky did some hand-wringing over those unfortunate Iranian schoolchildren who were blown to pieces but surely these stories are far more 'terrifying' Lives Under Fire than a captured soldier.
And slightly more challenging stories to explain to your children.
So one has to question what is the point of this story?
The story comes with a photo of a happy family that looks like any you might meet in democratic, modern 'Europe'
The implication being: this could be you!
You, when you have to face up to the Russian 'threat' to the UK or Belgium or the Netherlands.
You, when your husband (or wife) is captured fighting off the Russian advance across Europe.
But where are the photos of legs and heads scattered about after an airstrike, body parts being bulldozed with the rest of the rubble or emaciated bodies that died of starvation.
Sure such reports and photos exist but let's face it, they are rather unsavoury for western audiences.
You won't see many of them as shorts on Tik-Tok amidst cavorting Only Fans models.
Much better to regale us with a story that is carefully framed as heartwarming resistance to Russian 'oppression'.
Where are the MSM stories about Ukrainian 'separatists' from the East Lives Under Fire being captured and humiliated or imprisioned or killed by their own state as documented by 'whistle-blowers' like Benoît Paré?
Don't expect to see many or any MSM stories about this as it does not fit the narrative of a united Ukraine standing firm against Russian imperialism.
In any case, Russians with any sense of history must laugh at these kind of stories given that it is well-known that in WW2 Russian PoWs of the Nazi Wehrmacht were either shot, raped and multilated (in the case of their women pilots), sent to slave-labour camps or concentration camps to be worked to death or surrounded with barbed wire and left to starve to death on the freezing steppes.
No wonder so many captured Nazis were marched off the the Gulags to die after the war with only a lucky few returning.
There was no planning daring escapes from Colditz or tunneling out of Stalags for WW2 Russian PoWs - just a horrible death much like many of the PoWs of the WW2 'bushido' Japanese.
