When asked about the Slovak PM’s decision to visit the Russian capital on Victory Day, Merz said “Robert Fico knows this is not our shared view … we will discuss his visit to Moscow with him.”
Now that Orban is gone, Fico is the only EU leader on the EU's naughty step and Nanny Merz is not happy.
Fico was present in Moscow but did not participate directly in the commemorative events. He is the only EU leader to chose to be present for the anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany, calling himself “the EU’s black sheep” during his Moscow visit.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova delivered a sharp rebuke to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, after Merz threatened to confront Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico over his attendance at Moscow’s Victory Day celebrations instead of Europe Day.
“There would be no Europe Day without the victory of the Soviet people. There would be nothing but a vast concentration camp with gas chambers,” Zakharova said, referring to the Soviet Union’s decisive role in defeating Nazi Germany in World War II.
