Politics latest: Mayors in England to be given power to impose tourist tax with 'no cap'

Regional mayors will be given powers to impose a tourist tax on both domestic and foreign visitors to their areas, which will have "no cap", under new plans expected to be unveiled by the government today. Follow the latest.

FNN has learned that one of the first places set to impose the new tourist tax will be Woking.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of Woking explained:

Tourists flock to Woking to get the Railair bus to Heathrow airport from outside the main railway station. So it's high time that they pay for the privilege of traveling from the first-class Woking transport hub (complete with M&S food hall and nearby Travelodge) that is a gateway to the world!

First Woking, next Hull.
