Dronorama in the EU

Diversion and deflection

RT reports that Romania is asking Ukraine to put a self-destruct capability into its drones to stop them hitting EU/NATO countries.

The odd thing is the rhetoric around these 'rogue' drone strikes:

  1. Ukraine is successfully using drones to hit targets in Russia
  2. Russia is successfully jamming Ukrainian drones and diverting them to EU countries.

Does anyone not get the contradictory nature of this conflicting narrative?

If Russia is so brilliant at jamming drones and re-directing them into the EU then why can't it do the same with the Ukrainian drones targeting Russia?

Or is this just another dastardly Putin plot: let's divert drones into the EU but not divert them from killing our own people?

Is the drone technology being used really that different in each use case? Or is there something else at play here?

Another interesting point that RT makes is that manufacturing drones cannot require the same levels of military procurement spend as programs to build aircraft carriers, fighter aircraft and even tanks.

So it remains to be seen how the MICs will respond when all these massive projects disappear in favour of building drones for which you can buy the basic hardware platforms from Amazon, add some software, sensors and armament and a few hundred bucks later you're done!
