Wildberry Jam

Ukraine up to its neck in it

As the MSM gleefully report the consumer warehouses of Wildberries being hit by Ukrainian drone strikes for selling similar 'military equipment' that you can buy on Amazon, one has to wonder: what is the purpose of these strikes?

Multipolar Press frames it simply as psychological warfare:

Sure, FNN understands that:

  1. some more Russian civilians/military logistics facilitators (depending on your viewpoint) are being killed
  2. it doesn't look great on the evening news as another warehouse full of Wildberries orders awaiting dispatch is smoking away
  3. drones are getting through Russian defences and hitting their targets

So far so good...but:

  1. the general Russian population is not going to be pressuring Putin to end the war, more likely the opposite
  2. Putin will step up the retaliation on Ukraine (as he already has) with far more consequential results such as the shutting of Odessa port
  3. the head of Wildberries is bound to divert funds to preventing further attacks or sponsoring it's own special Wildberries deliveries to Ukraine

That's why Ukraine has put itself in a Wildberry jam.

Does no-one in the west remember any history?

The Luftwaffe blitzed the UK in 1940 but all that did was increase popular support for the state and eventually provide the crucial 'moral' (i.e. revenge) justification for the round-the-clock bombing campaign that eventually killed hundreds of thousands of German civilians.

And even that campaign did not break the back of the German civilian population and it was far more devastating than a few drone strikes on a few warehouses.

Later in the war, the Germans targeted the UK with its V-weapons (V1 and V2), but did they change the course of the war?

No they did not because World War 2 was decided on the battlefield when the Russians took Berlin and decapitated the Third Reich.

The German/Finnish siege of Leningrad killed upwards of a million Russian civilians from bombing and starvation but did the Russians roll-over and beg for surrender?

No they did not.

So what is the point of these pinprick drone strikes?

All they seem to have done is made Elon Musk deprive Ukraine of Starlink assistance in targeting Russia and force Zelensky to beg Trump to intercede to change Musk's mind.
