It was only thanks to what British pioneers, engineers, leaders and missionaries gave to the world that my parents even had the chance to find themselves exchanging vows at Haringey Town Hall. Cruelty didn’t bring us here: it was love, and in both directions.
Yet our young people are taught how ‘evil’ the British Empire was, how colonies were ‘raped’ and how generations later, we must atone for the ‘sins’ through reparations.
No serious country can run its immigration system as an open-ended moral obligation, an endless repayment for past actions.
How about instead of Black History Month, schools celebrate Commonwealth history and the contributions of the British Empire?
I don't think many Universities are going to be ordering a copy for their libraries.
