0.1 AI API

What is it?

Many Viziappz are AI-enabled but using these features depend on use of an AI API key.

An Application Programming Interface (API) allows you to make use of AI capabilities programmatically (i.e. in the code).

The application code calls the API by passing your key with appropriate parameters and the AI returns some results for the code to 'consume'.

You manage API keys in Moviewriter using Account > AI API keys.

Some AI keys are used for image generation and some for text-based queries.

Moviewriter was tested with 3 AI services:

  1. Anthropic Claude for text (e.g. https://claude.com/platform/api)
  2. OpenAI and xAI for images

Usually you have to pick the AI key to use for specific features or for the app as a whole.

You do not have to code anything to use the API just store your valid API key in the system.

Your API keys are encrypted on save and decrypted on use to keep them secure.

There is a cost associated with the use of AI APIs as they usually use 'tokens' to charge you for your usage. (e.g. https://docs.x.com/x-api/getting-started/pricing)

You can expect to pay 1 or 2 cents per image generation or up to 15-25 cents for a big call to produce say a lengthy report from a complete script.

In most cases the service tallies 'input' and 'output' tokens used for each call.

If you are thinking 'how come other AI apps don't charge me for using AI' that's because they are using their own API key to make the calls and usually the cost of your calls is bundled into your subscription for the app. The app is still using an AI API under the covers.

Generally, the content you supply with a call e.g. the content of a script scene is retained by the AI for some period of time as defined in their Ts&Cs and then deleted.

Moviewriter keeps track of these tokens in Account > AI usage & log (see below) or via the Admin button.
