Sky News reports:
Writing on X, Merz said: "Germany is helping Ukraine. But Ukraine is also helping us - with its expertise, for example in drone defence, but also with contracts worth billions for German industry.
"Today we signed agreements to that effect. This partnership is not a one-way street."
The Mekon (Merz) is doing what every politican does when there is chaos at home - go on a trip!
What doesn't add up is that billions for German industry represent a genuine two-way street.
Ukraine is basically funded by the EU that is in turn funded by Germany.
The EU loans money to Ukraine some of which it apparently uses to sign contracts worth billions with Germany.
So maybe Merz is right.
Germany pays the EU, which loans to Ukraine, which pays German industry for contracts so Germany - in a roundabout way - gets its money back. Bonus!
Is that what you call a two-way street or a backdoor payback scam?
Still, Merz gets a personalised rail ticket to put on his wall so that's got to be worth €1.3 billion, right?
