Syrian President in Moscow

He must be used to the guff by now

The Spectator newsletter reports:

Across the Atlantic, that Syrian realignment isn’t going too well. Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa is in Moscow today for talks with Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin put out a statement with the usual guff about ‘improving bilateral ties’. However, it is genuinely interesting to see Russia’s support for the Syrian government continue through regime change.

The 'usual guff'. The MSM really is priceless.

Presumably the same 'guff' as put out by the USA and Turkey.

The only difference is that Russian 'guff' has more legitimacy given that they were invited into Syria whereas the USA and Turkey simply invaded and occupied parts of the country while talking 'guff' about democracy, freedom, respecting territorial integrity, yada, yada, yada.

The MSM has never quite got over the fact that while the USA and Turkey aimed to destabilise the country and effect regime change, which, let's be honest, they achieved, Russia was trying to stabilise Syria and support a historic ally.

Depends which kind of 'guff' floats your boat, we guess.

Like any pragmatic geopolitical player, Russia has to go with the flow so it's hardly a surprise that Putin is talking to the new Syrian President - rather than trying to kidnap him, which is the preferred MO of the USA.

Interesting?
