Everything is Defence

Defence spending re-defined

Reuters reports that the EU is re-defining the classification of defence spending:

Until now, the defence category was quite narrow, allowing EU governments to apply it only to already-delivered hardware - tanks, planes, guns - while excluding the costs of training, hiring and paying new tank crews, pilots and mechanics.

That will change as the EU broadens the category to include most things that are relevant to defence, including so-called "dual-use" goods that can be used by both the military and civilians.

So for example, it can now be used to fund the training of baristas since everyone loves a latte right?

FNN has learned that anything that is anti-Russian or anti-Trump/Musk or anti-right wing will most likely get by as 'defence' spending.

Italy wanted the classification to include defence against the migrant invasion. No said the EU.

Spain wanted the classification to include defence against the climate change threat. No said the EU.

The UK wanted the classification to include defence against the threat of Nigel Farage. Well maybe said the EU.
Interesting?
