Unlocking Memory

New dementia treatment uses rock and roll music

A recent study in care homes has confirmed the power of rock and roll music to unlock the memories of dementia patients and spur them onto actions associated with the music.

For example FNN has learned:

  • Playing Led Zeppelin caused 75% of residents to throw their TV screens out their windows
  • Playing Black Sabbath resulted in 65% of residents biting the heads off chickens
  • Playing Pink Floyd led to 45% of resident becoming bricklayers

Australian care home resident Bill 'Battler' Heslop told FNN:

Listen cobber. My mind is definitely fucked. But play some Jerry Lee Lewis and I can't explain it but I get a warm, fuzzy feeling in my nuts. Hey Muriel! Fetch me a tinny. I'm parched.
