New Addition to Green List

Major new announcement for UK travel.

Today, the UK Government's promised travel update was finally announced late in the evening.

The expectation was that new travel benefits would be announced for the double vaccinated, lots of countries would be added to the green list that people actually want to go to and can visit, and the amber and red list would be shuffled to provide more viable destinations for UK tourists.

Instead the only place added to the green list was St Kilda.

The unpopulated island west of the Outer Hebrides was evacuated in the 1930s but in a bid to promote tourism to the island, it has been added to the green list. As there is no airport or port as such, the best way to get to the island is by sailboat or helicopter or even to swim from Benbecula.

The major travel companies reacted angrily. A spokesperson for TUI told FNN:

We don't even run package holidays to St Kilda so this will make zero difference to our business. And anyway there isn't a hotel on the island.

A government spokesperson claimed that St Kilda is just the first of many islands around the UK that will be added to the green list including Lundy Island, Brownsea Island, Canvey Island and various other places that no-one in their right mind wants to go to for a 2 week summer holiday.
