The BBC reports:

BBC pay 2025-2026: The full list of star salaries

It's entirely right that the BBC publishes a list of their top-paid 'talent' - talent that is paid via the licence fee.

But it's not something that does them any favours.

Anyone disillusioned with the BBC and considering stopping payment of the licence fee is only going to be encouraged by these salaries.

£745K for a radio presenter who was fired is probably the most obvious example.

Although these salaries are probably not obscene by industry standards, they show just how lucrative being a 'pundit' or a 'personality' can be.

These top-earners also benefit the advantages of a platform that few other media channels in the UK can compete with.

So as long as you can hold onto your job then success is virtually guaranteed - these are not YouTube channels where every subscriber/follower/upvote counts.

In the end, as a licence payer, you either find these levels of salary acceptable or you don't.

And if you don't then you have the option to vote with your feet as around half a million people did last year.
