Half an hour ago Sky News reported:
Counter terror police now leading investigation into death of Ann Widdecombe
Counter terror officers are now leading the investigation into the suspected murder of former minister Ann Widdecombe as "new information and evidence have come to light", Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) South East said.
5 hours ago, Sky News reported the police update on this case as:
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman provided additional details on the investigation at a press briefing on Sunday morning, telling media the arrest took place in Rotherham.
There is still "nothing to suggest" it is a terrorism related or politically motivated crime, he added. "And at this point, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder."
It's been abundantly clear from the start of this investigation that the alleged murderer of Ms. Widdecombe was 'white' and 'British'.
Phew! What a relief.
So that rules out any racist angle and a perp who is a poverty-stricken Ukrainian sponsored by nefarious alleged Russian handler EL Money.
At one point the suspect's mental health was called into question by the Mirror newspaper:

We now know he drove all the way from Rotherham to Devon (c. 300 miles) to carry out his crime.
Rotherham, infamous home of Pakistani rape gangs, is unfortunately back in the news again.
It was also reported by the BBC that there was no evidence the crime was 'politically motivated'.

Surprisingly, having said on various occasions what they believed the crime was not e.g. terrorism or politically motivated, the Police have also not stated that they did not believe the crime was not down to 'right-wing' thugs, perhaps just to keep people with an 'open mind' wondering.
Naturally, 'free speech' comedian Andrew Lawrence is sceptical about the way this case is being reported:

Still, at least Channel 5 presenters did not roll their eyes at Widdecombe's death which would have 'totally eclipsed' what happened when singer Bonnie Tyler's death was announced.
Meanwhile those jolly people in the trans community had this to say:
Ms Herbert, a former Labour candidate for Aberdeen Donside, wrote: 'Some good news for once. I hope it was an extremely painful death.'
She added: 'I hope she was handcuffed to the bed as she screamed in agony.'
Apparently this is not considered a 'hate crime' - even in Scotland - presumably because Widdecombe was white and so is Herbert.
If Graham Linehan had said it he would undoubtedly have been arrested.

Imagine the backlash if it had been Ann Widdecombe wishing 'an extremely painful death' on a trans person or on a Labour politician.
The horror!
Let's stop here: Ann Widdecombe deserves better than this media circus.
