Sky News reports:
UK net migration data 'not translating to public perception'
Sky's Tom Cheshire shares his analysis, as net migration falls to 171,000 - the lowest it's been since early 2021. Net migration is the difference between the number of people immigrating to the UK compared with the number emigrating - leaving the country.
Nobody cares about the net migration number.
What they care about is the number of people coming into the country - legally or illegally.
If people are leaving the country that's great - less pressure on housing, services etc - but this is not what energises people who are experiencing the impact of large numbers of incomers into their communities.
So this headline is an obvious deflection from what people really care about and tries to create a fake narrative that net migration means anything at all to the public.
If net migration is zero but the numbers are 1 million in and 1 million out which number do you think is energizing people?
