MSN reports:
President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to impose tariffs on the European Union or stop trading with the bloc if he deemed its decision to offer to make Canada its first associate member a “hostile act,” in remarks that come amid an escalating trade war between the U.S. and Canada.
Presumably Canada will not be opting for the EU's infamous 'open borders' policy which would result in streams of refugees transiting Canada to get to the USA, a bit like the illegal immigrants transiting the EU to get to the UK (although the boat journey is rather longer).
Why Canada would even want to be an associate member of the EU, except to spite Trump, is the real question.
But it would be rather amusing if the EU managed to get more associate members like Mexico and even Cuba thereby 'surrounding' the USA like it is trying to surround Russia.
And anyway, isn't Canada becoming an associate member of the EU in contravention of the illegal Monroe Doctrine?
