Podcast News

Writing is soooo old school

It's interesting to watch Sky News convert its online news site into a bunch of podcast click-cards that you click to listen to some person drone on about something when it would be much quicker for the news audience to read it instead.

But apparently no-one has that kind of attention span any more and prefers to consume their news in audio form while they do the ironing or sit on the toilet with a tablet on their lap.

FNN has some ideas as to why Sky is converting from textual news articles to podcasts:

  1. They don't believe their readership can read.
  2. No need to worry about pesky spelling mistakes.
  3. It makes 'personalities' out of their podcasters.
  4. There could be an option to spin off these 'click-dicks' onto their own 'exclusive' podcast channel.
  5. It's the lazy way to present news as a kind of fake chat-show.

Bring back Reginald Bosanquet - the son of 'googly' Bosanquet - FNN says.

Oh and it's harder to quote from podcasts than it is from text thus discouraging unflattering re-posts that can be used on blogs like FNN.

Interesting?
