It's sort of been done before

Sky News reports:

Ukraine's ousted defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov called for wartime elections yesterday evening.

Arguing the nation faced a governance crisis, Fedorov's demands represent one of the biggest internal challenges to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy since the full-scale invasion began.

Fedorov, popular for his reforms and heavy tech focus while defence minister, was controversially sacked by Zelenskyy in a reshuffle that triggered protests in Kyiv in July.

Winston Churchill was appointed Prime Minister on May 10, 1940, after Neville Chamberlain resigned. But it's true that Churchill was not elected. The next general election was not until July 1945, after the war had ended in Europe when he was kicked out, which is almost certainly what will happen to Zelensky.

This is going to be interesting as Fedorov obviously has some popular support, judging by the protests in Kiev/Kyiv.

One wonders if he also has any other shady backing from Western powers or the powerful NGOs that played a role in the Maidan coup.

This could be the first real test of Ukraine's fledgling democracy.

Fedorov is basically a technocrat-type with good links to Elon Musk, Palantir and others.

These are the kind of backers that could bring money and influence to bear should push come to shove.

It would only take Musk and Palantir to threaten to cut off Ukraine from Starlink and Palantir's AI targeting software to create a genuine threat to Zelensky.

It's really not that much different from Starmer and Burnham - an unpopular PM ousted by a supposedly popular replacement.

Interesting?
