Sky News reports:
Lord Robertson, NATO's 10th secretary general and a former Labour defence secretary, and General Sir Richard Barrons, former commander of Joint Forces Command, are giving evidence to the defence committee about the Defence Investment Plan.
Lord Robertson says: "We need to alarm people because we're under daily attack."
He says Russia sees the UK as its principal adversary right now and the UK is being used "as a proxy" for all the nations who are fighting against Russia.
Lord Robertson is clearly confused about 'proxies'.
Currently the UK, along with most of the rest of NATO, is fighting a proxy war against Russia.
He is well aware of this fact.
The UK decided to participate in the proxy war back in 2022 when it assisted - via Boris Johnson - in the derailing of the Istanbul peace talks and encouraged Ukraine to fight-on to the last Ukrainian.
The UK has trained Ukrainian troops to fight Russia, supplied all kinds of weaponry (e.g. drones and missiles) for use against Russia and assisted with targeting and destroying Russian infrastructure.
Would it be any wonder that 'Russia sees the UK as its principal adversary right now' - even if that were true.
Lord Robertson has conveniently forgotten that UK supplied weapons are killing Russians every day.
This is what being under 'daily attack' really means.
Just like when Nazi V weapons targeted London in WW2.
It means killing people. Every day.
Not buzzing aircraft, blocking GPS signals, dropping sonars.
It means killing people. Every day.
If people in the UK are not alarmed enough by the current Russian threat that's probably because they are not being attacked and killed by the weapons of a foreign power with whom they are not at war.
News flash to Lord Robertson: Killing people every day is alarming.
So maybe that's what Lord Robertson is asking for to get the money he wants for the UK defence budget?
