Google Cloud outage latest: Company sets time it expects services to recover

Google Cloud services are experiencing disruptions after a "power event", the company said in a statement. Users have reported service issues for dozens of apps, including banking services.

Welcome to the cloud. A single point of failure.

We were all encouraged to get into 'the cloud' and software vendors scrambled to move their 'on-device/on-premise' apps to the cloud mostly to benefit from jacking up license fees through subscription-based revenue - the old OPEX vs CAPEX con from the big-tech grifters.

But increasingly we are learning that clouds evaporate and they are likely to evaporate even more if malicious AI-bots are let loose.

This blog runs on a 'cloud server' so it is just as vulnerable as anyone else - but then again, it's hardly mission-critical.

Moving to the cloud was always about benefits for vendors and especially those hosting the cloud infrastructure - like Amazon, Google, Microsoft - not benefits for users who can suddenly find their lives turned upside down due to some hacker or other 'unexpected' event.
